The goal of this project was to mobilize and strengthen capacity of the workers so that they are able to demand their rights, develop trade unions and negotiate for better working conditions in their factories through Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). It provided training to workers on the Bangladesh Labour Law, trade unionism and industrial relations. Advanced legal training was given to trade union leaders. As the project particularly focused on developing the capacity of women worker leaders, there was dedicated training on gender-based discrimination and how to overcome it.
Dialogue workshops were organized between trade unions and management representatives to enable harmonious industrial relations.
The project took place in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions. Direct beneficiaries of the project were 1500 workers and indirect beneficiaries were over 15,000. Through this project 200 labour leaders were identified and nurtured to become effective advocates for improving workers’ rights.
