Awaj Foundation is a non-profit, voluntary organization. Awaj Foundation was established in 2003 out of the urgent need to protect workers’ rights in the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) sector of Bangladesh. Awaj Foundation is driven by the vision of decent work, dignified lives, and gender equity in the industrial sectors of Bangladesh. Awaj Foundation follows that each individual is entitled to work in a professional environment free of harm, harassment, sexual abuse, bullying, humiliation, exploitation or any other unlawful discriminatory practice. The organization works to establish and improve wages, strengthen workers’ rights, increase woman’s leadership, services for workers, legal aid, health services, migrant workers’ rights, research, and advocacy. Through 22 offices and community centers, we provide support to over 150,000 workers in 12 major industrial clusters in Dhaka and Chittagong Divisions.
Position Name: Human Resource Officer
Job Context:
Human Resource (HR) Officer is responsible for maintaining day to day HR operations and the implementation of Awaj HR policies at Awaj Foundation.
The HR Officer will ensure the efficient staff recruitment, contract management, orientation, learning and development, leave and attendance management, performance management, code of conduct compliance, employee engagement and staff care/wellbeing.
Key Job responsibilities:
- Human Resource Planning, selection and Recruitment as per requirement.
- Ensure job descriptions are appropriate and relevant from a technical point of view by liaising with relevant team members.
- Create advertisements and manage job vacancies
- Coordinate internal and external vacancy advertising
- Screen applications, liaise with Heads and other respective staff regarding short-listed applicants
- Ensure short-listed candidates are suitable by doing competency and motivational interviews, alongside main stakeholders.
- Administer the start to end contracting for all types of contracts
- Coordinate onboarding for new staff
- Review National staff contracts for accuracy and alignment with the local labour laws, in liaison with the HR Manager
HR Administration:
- Ensure that all aspects of HR Admin- contract management, personnel files are efficiently managed and completed
- Ensure that all HR processes comply with laws governing us (Labour Act, Staff Regulations, Code of Conduct)
- Prepare and organize in collaboration with the other departments, the induction of new staff.
- Follow up on staff contracts (starting date, end date and extension if needed).
- Make regular update of the leave status or leave planning system
- Ensure staff complete their end of mission formalities with all departments and turnover all admin items (ID Card, keys, phone, laptop, sim card etc.) before departure in collaboration with the other departments
Payroll Management:
- Follow up the payment of taxes and social taxes by the Finance and make the double archiving of the documents and receipts transmitted by the Finance
- Update and maintain payroll records
- Maintain updated information on staff salaries, allowances and ensure compliance with current laws and regulations in close collaboration with the Finance Department
- Ensure timely, equitable, transparent and systematic approvals of HR benefits, entitlements, contracts
- Support Finance team with required information of employee payments during they leave organization or end of their contract.
Performance Management:
- Guide coordinators to perform the whole range of performance management activities (e.g. set objectives, appraisal, identify gaps and contribute to the definition of training and development actions as appropriate)
- Provide guidance and support to coordinators and staff in cases of poor performance and disciplinary situations
- Share information received from staff development with all the team.
- Train staff in the use of the relevant tools e.g. performance online and advocate for highest standards of performance management
- Ensure that staff are timely appraised and monitor quality of evaluations in compiling final appraisals for the HR files
- Organize training for staff on HR policies
- Develop staff skills by the management and supervision of the various trainings.

Educational Requirements:
Minimum Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Human Resources or Related to Social Science or any administrative background

Additional Requirements:
- Working experience in Human Resource Management or any other experience in any administrative field is preferable
- Experience working with national and international non-governmental organizations is preferred
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to persuade others to adopt a specific course of action to achieve desired results
- Proficiency in the use of MS office tools
- Fluency in written and spoken English
